12 looks of X-mas: Day 5 - Delicate snowflake (And a small announcement)

Hey guys! So today I am uploading my 5th Christmas look AND I have something to tell you guys which saddens me greatly! Last week I suffered a work related injury and in the process, sprained my good wrist! Doing any form of make up, even holding a blending brush and typing is painful so sadly this series is going to have to come to a premature end :(
I am so so sad, as I literally look forward to this all year (no joke!) but alas, I don't think carrying on with a Christmas related series in January would go down well! I'm really sorry for anyone who may be disappointed (I know I am! I love doing festive looks!)

So anyway, this look was done prior to my injury so I thought I would upload it! I really like it, it was pretty easy to do and think it totally could be worn to any festive related fancy dress!

I then added some glitter for a "snow" sort of look! I liked it :)

I really like this look, it allowed me to get creative and it looked kinda cute! I totally would have worn this to work if I had a fancy dress day or something! Anyways, as my wrist is really really hurting now, I'm gonna stop babbling on! But I hope you liked this look. I do have a few more festive looks which I did prepare in advance, so let me know if you'd like to see those still (even though technically they are kinda irrelevant now!)

I will hopefully be back soon when my wrist gets better! Have a lovely Christmas everyone!

12 Looks of X-mas: Day 4 - Frosty

Hey everyone, welcome back! For the second festive look, I thought I would show you what I wore to the fabulous event I went to the other week - the #accessallasos x-mas party! I was absolutely thrilled to get an invite and meet my fellow insiders and I had an absolutely wonderful night, Asos really put on a great party! I did have a dilemma and a half when it came to deciding what make up to do (Asos had me covered with the outfit of course!) as I was travelling upto London in the afternoon, I didn't wanna go all out with my make up but still wanted something festive and smokey. I settled on this slightly frosty look, which was both daylight AND party appropriate, cutting a good medium. What do you think?

I used the Sleek Au Natural palette which I haven't dug out in a while and teamed it up with MAC's Satin Taupe, a favourite of mine for winter. Its so frosty and perfect for the crease at this time of year! I left false lashes behind (although did pack them in my bag just in case!) and jazzed up my look with Revlons lip butter in Raspberry Pie, which is just gorgeous for the party season. I am really getting into the Revlon lip butters again as my lips have been quite dry, so have swapped out lipsticks for this creamier option which seems kinder on the lips.
The look lasted all night with the help of my holy grail Lime Crime primer and I got many a compliment on the Revlon lip butter so overall I was pretty happy with what I came up with!

Have you been to any holiday parties? Sadly this was my first and last of the year!

12 Looks of x-mas: Day 3 - Sugarplums

Hey everyone, back with another look for my Christmas series! I will admit, I struggled on this particular day for inspiration. I didn't really know what to do or what I was aiming for but I really like the outcome regardless! I used purples and golds as I feel they are particularly festive colours, to create a really shimmery eye catching look that's super flattering and perfect for this time of year. I felt the final look kind of lacked something, so I chucked on the tiniest bit of glitter on my inner lid and it really just pulled the look together completely! You can't go wrong with a bit of glitter in the centre of the lid, especially at this time of year! What do you think?

As you can see, I got out my Kat Von D Poetica palette again. I felt the shades really went with MAC Violet and Tan pigments perfectly. I used Tan in the centre of the lid surrounded by Violet and used the darker purples to define the crease. I found I really do like this look and its probably my favourite I have done so far! Just goes to show with no clear plan in mind, you can create something a lot better than when you plan a blog post out eh? :)
Also, you probably noticed the bump in the inner corner of my eye... anybody have any idea what this is? Its not painful, but it doesn't seem to be going? I do hope it goes soon, its rather unsightly!

I hope you're all enjoying the festive season! If you have any requests for festive looks for me to do, then feel free to leave me a comment below!

12 Looks of X-mas: Day 2 - Baby its Cold Outside

Hey everyone, welcome back! So today's look is something a bit glitzy and glittery, perfect for this time of year. I firmly believe we all need a bit of glitter in December (well all year round for that matter) so today I used one of the fantastic Collection liners which I am a HUGE fan of. They have fantastic colour payoff and can create a really eye-catching look. I think this look would be perfect for an x-mas party or even new year as its festive, glittery and certainly turns heads but not in a bad way. Anyways I'll let the eyes do the talking!

I used the Cinderella Sephora palette which to me SCREAMS winter, with its icy hues and pastel tones. Apologies that you can't clearly see what I used but if you click here, you'll find my close up images and review. I just love this palette and have a feeling it will be making more appearances on this series. I also used the stunning Collection glitter eyeliner which is forever a festive favourite of mine on top of plain black eyeliner to give it extra va-va voom! Overall with the icy wintery eyeshadow look, I think it really stands out! Definitely going to be rocking this again over the christmas period!
What do you think? Have you tried the Collection glitter eyeliners?

Hunger Games Series: District 7 - Lumber (and a cheeky giveaway for all you Hunger Games fans!)

Hey everyone. I'm back with another Hunger Games look and can you believe I'm over halfway through? Crazy!
Today's look is based on the lumber district which is one of the poorer districts. The people here are said to be good with axes and if you have read the books or are familiar with the film, one of my favourite characters, Johanna comes from this district and dang, that girl can throw an axe!
I wanted this look to obviously incorporate green and browns, forestry colours that I feel would represent the district of lumber, but I also wanted the look to be moody, powerful and smokey, kind of like Johanna's personality. I used one of my oldest and favourite palettes, the Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV as I remembered it had a very rich deep green which I knew would be perfect!

I absolutely love my Book of Shadows palettes and wish Urban Decay would create more as I loved collecting them (anyone selling the Urban Decay BoS 1 + 2? They are the last ones I need!) I also started using a new liquid liner after all of mine ran out and the L'Oreal one looked like the best one Tesco had to offer! Its actually pretty good and rivals my Nars Stylo for sure. The only issue is it isn't waterproof so doesn't fare well against my very watery eyes!

So I thought i'd insert a cheeky giveaway here for all my fellow Hunger Games fans!
I recently won a twitter competition from  +CatchingFire where I won the Mockingjay pin! I however already have one which my boyfriend made me, so I thought one of you guys would like it! So if you would like to win the official Catching Fire pin identical to the one Katniss wears, then just make sure you are following me on either GFC or Bloglovin' and just leave me a comment below (saying anything you like!) and your contact details (either your twitter handle or email address, just some way I can get hold of you!) The giveaway will end X-mas eve with the pin being sent out some time in the new year :) Winner will be chosen at random using random.org :)

Good luck! May the odds be ever in your favour!
Sorry couldn't resist!

12 Looks of X-mas: Day 1: Santa Claus is comin' to town!

Hey everyone! Remember this series?! If you're new to Blog of Shadows then welcome to my 12 looks of x-mas series! If you hadn't already guessed it, I'm going to be doing 12 festive looks to count you down to Christmas and honestly, this is my FAVOURITE series of them all, even surpassing Disney! I dunno, something about Christmas means you can get away with almost anything when it comes to make up. I've done this series every single year and have honestly been looking forward to it for months... so lets get started!

I recently got the new Urban Decay Vice 2 palette and instantly when I saw it, I knew many a festive look would be created using it! It has these fabulous rich gold and silvers and lots of smokey sultry shades, so expect to see it a fair few times. I knew my first look would contain the startling silver "Shellshock" and I created an easy party look for those of you hopping off to your x-mas parties (mine has already been and gone unfortunately and sadly I couldn't go as I was working it anyways!). Its a really easy look to do and really sparkly and eye catching, so I hope some of you give it a go :)

As you can see the colours used are marked with a cute little gingerbread man. I used a warm toned brown in my crease as a transition colour just to blend out with so the silver and black wasn't so stark. If you ever find a make up look looks not quite done, this is my favourite trick to complete a look, give it a go! I also included a little gem in the corner of my eye. I'm kinda addicted to gems right now and I just thought it added a bit of somethin' somethin' and made the look a bit more festive! Check back Monday for another Hunger Games look, this time I'm doing District 7 - Lumber! Its gonna get green :)

Are you going to a Christmas party anytime soon? Is this something you would wear?

Hunger Games Series: District 6 - Transportation/Morphling

Hey guys! I am super excited to bring you district 6 today! For me, this was the district I always had a clear vision about, despite the fact that initially the district may seem boring to do! After all, what can you do with transportation?! However Katniss nicknamed the tributes of this district "Morphlings" as they have an addiction to the drug morphling and when we first see the tributes from this district in Catching Fire (yes I finally saw it and its perfection!), they are painting themselves to match their surroundings. In the books, it is made out to be colourful flowers which is where I mainly got the inspiration for this look from, however in the film, it appeared to be more camouflage if I'm correct?!
Regardless, I went with something fun and floral and it allowed my creative juices to flow. I hope you enjoy this step out of the box for me.

Hello x-mas jumper!! :)

For this look, I found these stick on gems from my local craft store. They were £2 and had such a variety I'm surprised I haven't used them before to be honest! They were easy to apply and I really think they MADE this look. For the eyes, I wanted to match the shades of the gems, so went for my Sugarpill palettes to create a funky sort of eye look. It really pops and looks completely crazy and bright, so very fitting for the morphling district! Tako (the bright white) is seriously the best most opaque white eyeshadow you'll ever find and they are hard to come across. I'd seriously recommend if you're looking to buy one! So anyways, I hope you get where I was going with this look. To be honest I'm kinda loving it. Need to invest in more gems!

Keep an eye out on Friday for my first x-mas look!
