Sephora & Disney's Ariel Collection: Mermaids Song Lipglosses Set
Hello guys and dolls. Hope you're doing OK! So I know I usually post Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays now, but I thought i'd throw in a few extra reviews around the Sephora and Ariel collection before anything sells out!
Today I'm reviewing the Mermaids Song Lipglosses set from the Sephora and Disney's Ariel collection. My eyes immediately lit up upon seeing this set, as I really enjoyed the Cinderella lipsticks and lip products are a big obsession for me. The lipglosses came in 4 wonderfully Ariel shades all based on things from the movie, so I was pretty excited.
The lipglosses come packaged in a velvety material tray, nice and snuggly inside their box. The box has the typical aquatic theme that is consistent with the collection with silver accents containing shapes of fishes, Ariel herself and seashells. The top of the box includes the quote "find your voice", very fitting for both lipglosses and the film. The back has the lipgloss shades and names inside little shells which definitely is a nice touch and the barcode is shaped like a huge shell with Ariel at the side. I love both of these little details, which really set the collections apart from anything else. I can't bring myself to throw anything away from these collections as they really are special.
The lipglosses themselves are packaged in what I liken to MAC lip gelees. I would have liked to have seen prettier packaging to be honest, as I find the the simple clear tube with "Ariel" written across it, kind of juvenile - I don't know, I feel like its something I would have had in my teens and as this collection is definitely aimed at adults, they could have done a better job. They are not my preferred way of applying lipgloss as I much prefer doe foot applicators as opposed to the little squeezy tube that you glide over the lips. They are unscented and tasteless as far as I can tell, which I suppose suits everyone. The lipgloss itself isn't sticky or tacky, but you can definitely feel it. Its quite slippery on the lips but pretty comfortable to wear as far as lipgloss is concerned.
I know with lipglosses its pretty rare to receive outstanding pigmentation, but these are really really sheer. Both Dream Girl and Mermaid give the lips a barely there wash of colour, while the two pigmented shades are hard to apply because of the style of the lipgloss applicator. Its hard to get precise application and because of the "jelly" sort of consistency, it applies patchy and strange, especially with Sea Witch. While I certainly love the colours in the tube and think they are perfect, I do not really like the formula of these and will probably get more use out of Dream Girl and Mermaid, as I know I can trust these to stay in place and I won't end up with lipgloss in funny places! However I do absolutely love the way Red Head looks on the lips when I finally get it right!
Overall this is one thing that I can say I was disappointed in with regards to this set. I think while they were initially a great idea, lipsticks would have been better! However, its still going to get use from me and as a collector I'm happy I have it! But for the $38.00, this is one thing I think is not worth that price tag. If you do however wanna check it out, it is still in stock on Sephoras website here and in local Sephora stores around the US and Canada. For those UK lovelies that think they cannot get this collection, fear not! Roses Beauty Store is stocking it here for £39.00.
