Disneyworld Diary: Day #2

Hi everyone, hope you're enjoying these little diary posts. Thank you for all the lovely comments on my previous one, I didn't expect the response I got!

Today me and the Mr had lunch reservations at a restaurant we had been recommended to visit called the Yak 'n' Yeti in Animal Kingdom. We decided to spend our day at Animal Kingdom and luckily, the weather was absolutely stunning.

Top - River Island.  Floral Shorts - Primark. Sandals - Primark

We initially decided to book our holiday at this time of year for our anniversary, but over the course of our trip realized it sure is busier in June as opposed to September. Animal Kingdom was insane and combine that with the heat, we definitely think next time we will stick to September next time we visit! We didn't let it ruin the day though and got fastpasses for our favourite ride - Kali River Rapids and took a slow walk around the park, grabbing a berry smoothie to share along the way. The wait time for the big mountain ride that Animal Kingdom is famous for - Expedition Everest was pretty huge so we opted to go and see the Finding Nemo musical instead and enjoy the lovely air conditioned theater!

We then went and had our lunch reservation at the Yak n Yeti. We didn't have to wait long and were seated after about 5 minutes. Our waitress was lovely and even though I forgot my ID so couldn't sample the lovely looking cocktails on the menu, lunch was just divine. The menu is mainly oriental/asian, with lots of stir fried vegetables and exotic spices. The ambiance wasn't the best, with a very busy atmosphere and loud children, we didn't mind too much, but not the best if you are looking for somewhere chilled and "romantic" perhaps.

I went for a main course of duck breast with a special sweet Yak n Yeti special glaze, stir fried vegetables on a bed of rice. It was gorgeous and I was easily full by the end. My boyfriend decided on steak curled around a mountain of rice with stir fried veggies and battered shrimp. He really liked it and I had a bite and have to say the steak was out of this world. Would highly recommend visiting here if you can!

Mid way through our meal the manager was making the rounds and came to our table to chat to us. He was super friendly and we talked about his travels to England (he even knew where Kent was!). He then happened to ask how our day was, to which I mentioned it was pretty busy so we hadn't had a chance to actually go on any rides yet. He then told us he could sort that out, disappeared and returned with 2 fast passes for any ride of our choice. Day = made! What a lovely gesture!

After being incredibly full from dinner and dessert of chocolate cake and deep fried won-tons for my boyfriend, we took our special fast passes and visited Expedition Everest, our first real ride of the trip! I do love this ride, one of my favourites! Its a fast rollercoaster type ride (no loops) with lots of turns and drops but its not too bad! My mum handled it pretty well last time so even those with a fear of rollercoasters would be OK! After that we headed to the Kali River Rapids to cool off and got well and truly soaked! It was about 5pm by this time so we went back to the resort and cooled off by the pool for the rest of our evening. It got pretty chilly by about 7pm and the sound of thunder could be heard in the distance, so we took this opportunity to hurry and grab some quick service for dinner that night.

We decided to explore what Saratoga Springs had to offer culinary wise and found a bustling quick service sandwich bar type place by the lobby called The Artists Palette. A great little restaurant with lots of local art plastering the walls and tonnes of different types of sandwiches from Lobster to what I chose - Turkey and Brie. All sandwiches are freshly made up with fresh crisp brown bread and no scrimping on the filling either! Honestly the best sandwich I ever had! Richard (the boyfriend... I suppose I should call him by his name by now!) went for a cheeseburger flatbread - a pizza type square base covered in mince beef, cheese, tomato, lettuce and basically everything you'd find in a burger. It was huge and he struggled to finish it! In fact half my sandwich came home with us! For dessert we ate cupcakes and they were delicious. I like to think of myself as the self appointed cupcake expert, always sampling cupcakes wherever I can (Ha!) so I can safely give these cupcakes a Marvelle certified thumbs up - they were moist inside with a fresh buttercream on top and little Mickey sprinkles. No dry mouths here ladies and gents!

Afterwards we took the stroll back to our resort. I would say if you aren't much of a walker, avoid Saratoga Springs! The resort is huge and the lobby/shop/food is a 15 minute walk from our room. I don't mind so much as the night was beautiful, mild and the the resort itself is beautiful to look at with quaint little lanterns to light the way and fountains and lakes - it really is a pleasure!
