100 Day "No Spending" Challenge: Update 5
Its my 5th week and 35 days into this spending ban. I made a boo boo guyz. And a big one.
Its a well known fact I cannot resist Urban Decay palettes - my blog is even named after one. When I heard about the Urban Decay Oz palettes I knew I was gonna crumble and yes I did. My only justification is the money came solely from the money I have made from blog sales and ebay but to me, that's not much of a justification as that money could have done with going elsewhere. I try to see the bright side though and at least its not money from my bank account (fail) but yes I am weak. I warn you now, the MAC Archie Girls collection could result in a similar post to this. All in all though, that was my only purchase (albeit a very big one).
In other news, little while ago I noticed I was getting low on eye cream. Eye cream is an essential for me since I work nights, I am prone to bags and darkness under my eyes. I went 2 months without and gosh did I see a difference! I took to twitter to ask if there was any recommendations and compiled myself a list. But something told me I should check my stash before ordering and what do you know!
4 eye creams! Not ones that I am too fond of, but worth using up for the sake of this challenge. I was looking into both the Origins and Kiehls eye creams which cost around the £28-30ish mark. Not cheap and I was glad I was able to save that money and hopefully use up these bad boys before repurchasing.
I also see I have 3 pairs of false eyelashes left. False eyelashes are pretty essential for my make up looks - which I average at about 1-2 a week. I am going to try my absolute hardest to use 1 pair a month (bearing in mind these 3 pairs are on their last legs but we will get through this!) before repurchasing any. If I can do that, I will last until the end of my ban without buying any! Huzzah!
I'm proud that I am getting through my stash, rediscovering things and despite buying the Urban Decay palettes, I am still proud of myself. We all fall off the wagon, but I'm hopping right back on it to see the rest of the challenge through! To *try* and make up for having a bad week, I am adding an extra week onto my challenge :)
Total spent this week: £70.
This week I am lusting after: Rimmel Apocolips
What I have learnt this week: Urban Decay will always have me by the balls.
How much money have I saved this month: I saved about £30 not buying the eye cream. I also saved £60 by not buying lunches at work all month (I am so proud of this - I worked out over a year I spend about a months worth of wages on food just for work, MENTAL!). I saved £26 by cancelling my MAC order.
How much money have I spent this month: £100 + £19 + £70 = £189. This may seem a huge amount to some - but for me, I usually spend near enough £800! To me that's a huge saving and I hope to see even less next month :)

If you are doing the 100 day challenge or want to take part in it, its not too late! Just comment below and I can add your link! Also let me know if you have written an update post on your blog so I can link that :)
Thursdays at 8pm there is a twitter chat using the hashtag #spendingban. Feel free to come take part regardless of whether you are doing the spending ban or not!
Your still doing really well. If money came from your blog sales etc I think it's totally justifiable ;)
ReplyDeleteI haven't even looked at the mac collection even when people have posted I've avoided them because I know it'll result in bank account carnage lol xxx keep it up chick we're all doing so well xx
Haha I try to tell myself its justifiable but still! Don't look J, its gonna be tough to restrain!
DeleteDid you buy both palettes?? I bought Glinda. I resisted for all of 2.5 seconds. Weak! But it's Urban Decay, it's allowed!!!!!!! Best of luck with the rest of the ban though. You're doing great. You're allowed a lapse, otherwise you'd go crazy!xx
ReplyDeleteHaha I don't know what came over me tbh, it was all a excitable blur when I bought them. But yes, i got both! Naughty naughty :(
DeleteThose palettes are gorgeous - I don't blame you for getting them! What are the eye liners like? I'm so tempted but my spending ban is shouting at me...hmmm we will see! xx
ReplyDeleteThe eyeliners are nice but very very similar. I can't tell the difference too much despite Rockstar being described as a purple! I myself would have added a white or pink to the Glinda palette. But they are a lovely formulation :)
DeleteAwww youre still doing really well and have cut your saving down a lot :)

Thanks Sami. I think so too! Even though I had a little lapse, I think this month has been groundbreaking for me and my bank account! I'm incredibly happy with how far I have come despite ordering these :)
DeleteWell done - you've done great so far! I couldn't resist the Urban Decay Oz either.... but onwards and upwards!
ReplyDeleteExactly :) lets not dwell on our little mishaps and continue onto a better month this month!
Deletethink you did extremely well. My will power is soooooo weak when it comes to buying cosmetic items. The Urban Decay palettes are so tempting. Gorgeous shades!
ReplyDeleteUrban Decay will always be my weakness haha! Damn you UD!
DeleteYou're still doing pretty well! I finished this challenge in December, and it was really, really hard but I was able to complete it! You can totally do it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteYou've done brilliantly! £70 isn't all that bad, and considering how much you've saved I think a treat is totally justifiable. I will probably be saying the same thing though when Archie Girls is released...
ReplyDeleteI need to get into a habit of using eye creams more. I have the Emma Hardie one but I'm a little bit skeptical! Will power through though and hopefully I'll notice a difference!
I hope to spend even less in February (its a short month too, so no excuses!) I find eye creams really make a difference to me - I use one religiously now :)
DeleteYou've done so well. I think it's only human to fail a little bit, many that I have read have given in to something. Did you see my last update? Shocking haul lol.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing really well! Well Done :)
xxx
Haha I did see your haul! Eep! But heres to february!
Deletespending just under £200 from about £800? That's amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd lets be honest, those urban decay palettes are beautiful :D xx
I thought so too! I feel so much better about my spending habits because I actually have money now! haha! Its a nice feeling :)
DeleteUrban Decay is like calories on your Birthday.....they don't count ;) stop feeling guilty and just enjoy it. I love Urban Decay x
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love this comment!! :D
DeleteThat palette is beaut! I'm running low on eye cream too. I'm on my last tube but maybe I should look around like you, I'm sure a few will appear. I get terrible bags and dark circles too, bleh!
ReplyDeleteThanks for including me in the list :)
xo
No problem :) And yeah def look around in your stash first. I had completely forgotten about the ones I had :)
DeleteI want those palettes so bad! They look great! I might have to get them.
ReplyDeleteI want to join the challenge, but I'm going on vacation soon. I don't think that I will be able to not spend.

DeleteTo be fair, those palettes look amazing, I just know I really don't need any more eye shadows right now!
ReplyDeleteEveryone's allowed a slip up (or 5 in my case ahaha!), so I wouldn't worry much :)
